On Wednesday evening, we hosted a Thanksgiving Service to mark the end of the Shrieval year for the High Sheriff of the West Midlands, Doug Wright MBE. The Mayors from across the region were all in attendance, including the Mayors of Sutton Coldfield and Birmingham. We also welcomed The Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Derrick Anderson CBE. Rev’d Canon Dr Mark Pryce (Chaplain to the King) and many other distinguished guests were also in attendance.

The most important guests however, were the volunteers receiving awards for outstanding contributions to our region. Awards were given to people who have started charities, set up food banks and youth clubs, and served as volunteers for decades. St John’s ambulance cadets who have shown bravery in difficult situations were also recognised.

It has been a privilege to serve as chaplain to the High Sheriff this year. I have met some extraordinary people and am humbled by their devotion to the most vulnerable in our community.
